Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! I accept a certain percentage of my overall caseload who wish to utilize insurance. I am in-network with Aetna, Cigna, Optum Health Insurances, and BCBS. I will say that the mental health plan must be the in-network company. Some BCBS of Texas plans have their mental health benefits managed by a different company that I am not in-network for.

  • Yes! I offer a sliding scale that is currently $65-150 depending on your income. I typically base the fee on household income. My goal is to attempt to make my services as affordable and accessible as possible.

  • This is such as personal question. A good place to start for fit is if what you are struggling with is in my wheel-house. I list my areas of specialty on the home page and the services page.

The next way to answer if I’m the right fit is if you need or thrive from a more direct, skills focused approach. Because I’m often very direct. If this is your vibe, we may be a good fit.

The last is simply, if after a few sessions, you feel comfortable, heard, and are getting what you need or at least are heading in that direction.

If after a few sessions the answer, for whatever reason, is no to one of these, we may not be the right fit. If we aren’t and you decide to move on, the good news is that I will know enough about your struggles to hopefully better help you find an alternative therapist.

  • The typical session, especially if you are utilizing insurance, is 53 minutes.

  • Typically, I ask a few questions about what is currently going on for you and take a brief history of what is going on for you. If I think we are a good fit based on this conversation, we move on to talking about payment options, including self-pay and insurance pay. Then we will discuss scheduling, including my schedule limitations. If all of these aspects line up and we are in agreement, I send you electronic paperwork and schedule our first session.

  • This can vary depending on what’s going on for you. But in general, if I haven’t done so already, I will go over privacy and confidentiality limits. If it’s your first time in counseling at all, I typically spend more time describing the process of therapy.

I will ask some questions and you will share what’s going on for you. Then I may ask some more questions in an attempt to get the clearest picture I can of what’s going on for you right now. This is really helpful for me to have an idea of what course of action to take. At the end of the session, I like to check in and ask how you felt about the first session. I then typically ask if there is something that we didn’t get to in that first session that we need to, or something you may want me to know about you. Then I give you some brief details about our next steps in the therapy process.

  • I have a 24 hour prior to the appointment cancellation policy. If you do not contact me in that time frame to cancel or reschedule, I reserve the right to charge you the full amount of the session.

  • I will not work with couples at this time. I also will not work with an individual in which issues with their partner is their main struggle.
