Kati Overmier, MSSA, LCSW

Welcome!

So, you read a little about me on the main page and want to know more. I am honored. Really. I will honor you with a little more about me to satisfy your curiosity.

I have a very expressive face. Theatre kid and all that. I’ve tried toning it a bit down during my therapy sessions to mixed results. After all therapists are supposed to be blank faced and serious, and thoughtful, right? Then a client told me when they are about to do something against their values, they see the look I may give them, and stop. After that, I stopped trying to reign in my face as much.

What else could I tell you? I am left handed, except for scissors and knitting. My grandmother told me she could teach me knitting left-handed, but I’d have to wait for her to remember how. I was impatient and decided knitting right-handed was better than waiting.

Ok, so that’s a little bit about me personally.

Before I go into more details, I will get my qualifications, education, and a brief work history out of the way.

Why choose to work with me?

I know and use a bunch of therapeutic techniques, such as CBT, DBT, trauma techniques, mindfulness, and ACT. I will admit, ACT is my favorite. It’s flexible and teaches you not to get rid of your thoughts and feelings - a generally impossible task - but to have a different relationship with them instead.

That being said, since I know so many approaches, I will tailor my sessions to what you need at the time. I’m definitely not a formulaic therapist.

I’m a big believer in helping you learn skills that enable you to change how you respond to your feelings and thoughts to make strides towards living a life you actually want to be living. So very often, we wait to do something until we feel differently or think differently. Days and weeks, maybe even years could go by and we could still wait. I want to help you stop waiting.

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is not
